NEW DELHI: A 16-year-old boy undergoing treatment at east Delhi’s Dr Hedgewar Arogya Sansthan, who died on Friday afternoon, could be a death due to dengue. However, there was no official confirmation from the hospital on the cause of death.

Arjun Singh, 16, was first taken to the hospital on October 10 and was discharged the next morning.

“We took him to a clinic when his fever did not go down after two days. The doctor asked him to get a test done and the report showed that his platelet count had dropped to 70,000. So, we took him to the hospital,” said Anaktal Singh, his father who works as a LPG cylinder delivery person.

He was discharged from the hospital the next morning, but his condition worsened by the evening and he had to be brought back. “They discharged him again the next morning. This happened twice. If he was so unwell, why did they not treat him,” said Singh.

Dengue has claimed the lives of four people, according to the official data released by the municipal corporations. Hindustan Times, however, has independently reported 25 deaths due to the mosquito-borne viral disease.
