NEW DELHI: A 14 year-old boy reported missing last year was rescued from Jammu and Kashmir last week.

The minor’s father, Charan Singh, filed a police complaint on August 28 last year informing that his son had gone missing. A case had been registered then at Shahbad Dairy police station but he was yet to be traced.

According to the police, Singh had last month informed police about having received several missed calls from an unidentified cell number.

“The number was traced to Kajhali Village in Jammu and Kashmir, and we received information that the boy had been seen in the area” said joint commissioner of police Ravindra Yadav.

The teenager, police said, was rescued from the house of a man named Kailash in Kajhali village. Kailash is in the business of transporting devotees to Vishnu Devi Shrine on mules and horses.

Kailash told the police he found the child roaming around by himself and on enquiry, found that he had run away from home to go to Vaishno Devi for darshan.

“As he was in need of care and protection, I brought him home and took care of him.” said Kailash.

This was not the first time he has escaped from his home. He said that at Vaishno Devi, he used to eat food at temples. The child has now been reunited with his family after a year.
