Family in suicide pact was distraught after son’s death, say kin

NEW DELHI: Like every father, Bhagwan Dass Yadav wanted to fulfil his son’s dream of becoming a doctor. The 50-year-old resident of Khera Dabar village left no stone unturned in his efforts to ensure young Kuldeep’s admission into a reputed medical college.

On February this year, Kuldeep finally secured admission in a medical college in Kyrgyzstan much to Yadav’s delight. It seemed nothing could go wrong.

Kuldeep (23) had come to India on August 18 to celebrate Rakshabandhan with his sister Sarita. A day later, he was found dead inside the bathroom of his house. The family was inconsolable. Relatives claimed that the man had died due to a heart failure. Police, however, claimed that said Kuldeep had committed suicide.

The next few days were a blur for the family.

“Sarita would scream and say she doesn’t want to live anymore. Her father and mother were heartbroken. The family slipped into depression,” said Vinod Yadav, Bhagwan’s brother.

But Vinod never thought that the entire family would take such an extreme step 20 days after Kuldeep’s death.

“They were very sad, but I could not believe what had happened till I saw the bodies. It was only after I read their suicide notes that I understood how badly they had been affected by their son’s death,” said Vinod.
