The rain knocked down the maximum temperature, stuck at 42.1 degrees Celsius in the afternoon, by four degrees.

The rain started at around 3.34 pm, catching Delhiites by surprise.

Starting with a drizzle that appeared out of nowhere, the sky was suddenly overcast.

The minimum temperatuere was 27 degrees Celsius. While strong winds did not let the clouds stick around for long, the city got a fair share of rain in South, West, Central and North Delhi areas.

“It was so cool after so many weeks. Sadly, the rain was not as much as we would have liked,” said Anirban Basu, a sales executive working in Nehru Place.

The Met department’s Safdarjung observatory, though, did not receive any rainfall. The only place that could measure the rain was the Northern Ridge where the weatherman has a rain gauge. It turned out to be a decent 1.8 mm.

Sunday was 43 degrees Celsius, while Saturday was 43.7 degrees Celsius, making it the hottest April in half a Century.
