13 hurt in east Delhi fire after LPG leak

Thirteen people, including a five-year-old girl, were injured after a leaking cylinder triggered a major fire at a residential building in northeast Delhi on Wednesday morning, Delhi Fire Services (DFS) officials said.

According to the DFS, the incident took place at a rented accommodation in the Jhilmil Colony area, located near Vivek Vihar, around 7.10 am.

"More than half a dozen fire tenders were rushed to douse the flames after what seemed like a blast and all the victims, including a five year old girl, were rushed to the adjacent Dr. Hedgewar Hospital, after being rescued," said a senior police officer.

While the child, who was ascertained to have sustained 70 per cent burn injuries, is stated to be critical, the others, who had received only minor burns, were discharged after being administered first aid at the hospital, the official said.

Officials said the explosion had occurred due to a leak in an LPG cylinder being used by the victims.

He added that no foul play was suspected.
