19-year-old, two others held for kidnapping boy

A 19-year-old school dropout and two of his associates were arrested for kidnapping a six-year-old from his residence in northwest Delhi and demanding a ransom of Rs 20 lakh from his own relatives, police said on Monday.

Meenu Chaudhary, deputy commissioner of police (northwest), said Dal Chand had kidnapped his cousin Dharamvir’s only son, Prince, from his Azadpur residence to get his hands on a major chunk of the money that Dharamvir had received after selling his ancestral property to a major corporate in his native village at Uttar Pradesh’s Mainpuri district.

“On the morning of July 11, three persons, identified as Raj Kishore, Sanju and Manish, came to Delhi from Etawah in UP by train and reached Azadpur, where Dal Chand, who had kidnapped Prince from his house on the pretext of taking him to his mother’s care, handed over the boy to the trio,” the DCP said.

Once he was in their custody, police said, the trio took Prince to Etawah by bus after which Sanju started to make ransom calls to the victim’s father, who is a delivery van driver by profession, but had just sold some of his land at his native village of Gotpur, UP.

“Dal Chand had told his family that he was going to visit his maternal uncle in UP’s Etawah district. A police team was despatched and after making several inquiries on a local level, the victim was rescued from the residence of Manish,” the DCP said, adding that Manish was away when the raid was conducted and is absconding at the moment.
