265 students get challan for driving

The traffic police have issued 265 challans in a week under their ongoing drive against underage driving in the city. The police have launched a special drive from July 12 against the menace. On Tuesday, 59 students were issued challans.

As a part of the campaign, the traffic police have been interacting with the school children through various interactive programmes to educate them about the negative aspects of underage driving.

“In order to control this practice and educate children, parents and schools, thorough checks will be conducted in all major secondary schools by specially constituted teams,” said Maheshwar Dayal, DCP (east Gurgaon).

“We need to understand the dangers of underage driving. The best possible way to address this problem is to provide road safety education to both children and parents,” he said.

The traffic department has asked the schools not to allow students to drive if they do not have driving licences.

During this campaign, police officials will interact with children and teach them the traffic rules and make them aware about the ill-impact of underage driving,” Dayal added.

Underage drivers usually ignore traffic rules, endangering their own lives as well as those of other commuters, said the official. Parents, too, should not let their children drive vehicles just because they seem capable. This is a very dangerous trend.
