3 AAP members held for pasting 'inflammatory posters'

Three members of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), including one spokesperson, were arrested by the Delhi Police on Friday for allegedly pasting inflammatory posters at public places in South Delhi Jamia Nagar.

The arrested AAP members have been identified as Dilip Pandey, a spokesperson of the party, Ram Kumar Jha and Javed. All the three were booked under section 153A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony), 295A (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of IPC and Defacement of Property Act.

P Karunakaran, deputy commissioner of police (southeast), confirmed the arrest. "The case was registered at the Jamia Nagar police station on Wednesday. The arrests were made following investigation into the case," Karunakaran said.

A senior police officer said they had received a PCR call on Wednesday and the caller had informed the police about some provocative posters pasted on hoardings and other public places.

An AAP spokesperson, however, condemned the police action saying Pandey and others had nothing to do with the case and they were being framed by the police.

"When a resident of Jamia Nagar, Amanatullah has already told police that it was he who himself put the posters out of anger against the Congress legislators...what is a point in arresting them," said an AAP leader.
