Ten arrests were made and three gangs were busted in the last two months for burglary and fire in government houses of south Delhi.

But the incidents have all but stopped.
On Wednesday, the house of a surgeon in East Kidwai Nagar was targeted. This time, the robbers set the two almirahs in the house on fire.
Police said it has become a challenge for them to arrest this “new gang”.
Earlier, the Crime Branch and the south district police claimed to have arrested three different gangs for involvement in such cases.
The south district police arrested a minor and a 20-year-old man for striking at more than 50 houses in south Delhi.
“We had arrested five members of a gang and their involvement was established in 15 cases. One Gautam, member of the same gang, is absconding,” said a senior Crime Branch officer.
“It is also possible that some other gang has picked up this modus operandi and is trying to deflect attention,” the officer said.
“Unlike other past incidents when the thieves entered from the rear door, in this incident (on Wednesday) they broke two locks of the main door to enter,” said a senior police officer. “They had tea and food in the house and then set the two almirahs on fire.”

None of the neighbours were aware of the fire and it was only after Dwivedi returned home that he noticed the charred almirahs.
“As I was aware of similar incidents in the area, I did not keep any cash. They might have set the almirahs on fire out of frustration,” said Dr Ajay Dwivedi, his hands smeared with soot.
“It is quite possible that some other gang has picked up the same modus operandi. We are intensifying security in the
area,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).
On November 15, the Crime Branch had arrested five members of the gang and recovered eight laptops, jewellery and foreign currency from them.
Before that south district had arrested two men for being involved in similar cases.
