4 suspects identified in battered baby case

According to the police, several specially constituted teams are on the job. While they couldn’t get their hands on the 22-year-old Rajkumar, the police are inching towards another key suspect, identified as Ram Kumar Mishra.

The Delhi Police have identified four key suspects and claim to be close on the heels of one of these. This development comes days after a minor admitted a battered two-year-old girl child to AIIMS.

According to the police, several specially constituted teams are on the job. While they couldn’t get their hands on the 22-year-old Rajkumar, the police are inching towards another key suspect, identified as Ram Kumar Mishra.

“One of our teams has also been dispatched to Muzaffarpur district in Bihar and is on the heels of Ram Kumar Mishra, who, we believe, had a decisive role to play in the entire episode,” said an investigating officer.

The police suspect that Rajkumar, who works as a taxi driver in Mumbai, had brought the toddler to the city from a mysterious woman before handing her over to the 14-year-old girl who later injured the toddler in frustration.

“We suspect Rajkumar had also sexually abused the 14-year-old girl before leaving the toddler in her custody and returning to Mumbai. His wife has been questioned but has no link with either the sexually abused minor or the battered toddler,” the officer said.

Sources claimed that the police are now investigating whether the episode might be related to an interstate abduction-cum-prostitution racket but senior police officers chose not to comment directly on this issue.

“It is too premature to comment on whether an organised crime syndicate or gang is behind the unfortunate incident. We are primarily concentrating on getting our hands on Rajkumar,” a senior officer said requesting anonymity.
