With the incorporation of new properties, the number of taxpayers in the municipal body has gone up to 3.66 lakh. The numbers are set to rise as some of the properties that have been identified are yet to make their payments.

“In the past one year, the north corporation carried out drives to identify properties. The drive is continuing and we hope to bring more properties under the tax net,” said a senior official. He added that most of the new properties belong from the Rohini zone.

Through sustained drives, the corporation expects to collect the Rs. 350 crore target set this financial year. So far it has collected Rs. 240 crore.

Also, in order to encourage the officials of the property tax department, the municipal body on Tuesday awarded four of its staff members —Amit Kumar, Meenakshi Kapoor, Anil Goel and Jagdish Sharma —for ‘outstanding performance in achieving target fixed for property tax collection’. On the occasion, the chairman of the high-powered property tax committee, Rajesh Bhatia, said that the staff will be given a month’s salary as a bonus.
