72-yr-old held on rape charge

A 72-year-old man was arrested for allegedly raping his 20-year-old domestic help in West Delhi area. Police arrested Thakur Das, a whole-sale fruits dealer in Azadpur vegetables and fruits market on Saturday, reports HT Correspondent.

A 72-year-old wholesale fruit dealer has been arrested for allegedly raping his 20-year-old domestic help. Police said Thakur Das raped his maid of six years on May 14 at his Punjabi Bagh house in West Delhi.

“She was found in a semi-conscious state near Das’s house on May 14. She could not identify herself initially. She was taken to a hospital where doctors confirmed that she was raped. A case was registered against unknown persons on the same day,” said a senior police official, not authorised to speak to media.

Police said the woman, originally from Jharkhand, was very reluctant to disclose the identity of the man who assaulted her.

“Initially she said she was kidnapped. Later she retracted her statement and claimed that she did not know what happened to her,” the officer added.

“When she was told that she didn’t need to worry about her safety, she named Das. We arrested him from his house on Saturday.”

She said Das followed her into the kitchen, where he started making sexual advances towards her. When she resisted, he assaulted her and then raped her.
