Virender Kumar, who served 25 years of his life working for an air-conditioner manufacturing company, was probably one of the oldest among the scores of people who joined hundreds of anti-corruption crusaders protesting Anna Hazare’s arrest at the Tihar Jail.

Wearing placards strung together, Kumar, a resident of Kirti Nagar, said he had come to support Anna who for him has taken a task to make India a corruption-free nation.

As soon as he got the news about Anna being arrested and sent to Tihar Jail, Kumar left his house without even informing his family about his move. With not enough bucks in his pocket to buy a bus ticket, he started walking towards his destination with one aim and one desire — to support Anna in his mission. On the way he, however, got a ride by a scooterist.

Asked what made him to raise his voice against corruption at the dusk of his life, Kumar said that he himself is a victim of corruption and that in his entire life he has witnessed the developing phases of it.

“They demanded Rs5,000 and to no surprise the work got done within hours after I paid the bribe,” added Kumar, claiming he will also fast with Anna and would scarify his life if needed, to make Anna’s movement successful.
