'93 blasts case: Sanjay Dutt will surrender tomorrow

Actor Sanjay Dutt will finally surrender before a court tomorrow, after a TADA court today granted his plea seeking permission for giving himself up in an anti-terror court in Mumbai instead of Pune's Yerawada jail.

Citing threats to his life from "vested interests and fundamentalist groups and organisations", he had appealed to a designated TADA court yesterday that he be permitted to surrender before Yerawada jail authorities instead of the special anti-terror court.

But he filed a fresh application today and expressed willingness to surrender in the court without citing any reason why he wanted to withdraw his earlier application. The court allowed him to withdraw yesterday's application.

Dutt who was convicted in the 1993 bomb blasts case had to surrender by May 16 after the Supreme Court extended the April 18 deadline to surrender by four weeks.

On April 15, Dutt's lawyer had made oral request to the special court to allow him to directly surrender before the jail and not in the court. The special court had however, refused to entertain the request.
