A Bollywood-inspired ‘Plan’

The police recovered a CD of the movie from the Honda Accord used by the gangsters. What worries the police more is that the gang allegedly planned the robberies inside Tihar Jail at the behest of drug lord Sharafat Sheikh, who is also lodged there.

The gangsters led by Satya Prakash (32) alias Satte were allegedly planning to abduct a south Delhi businessman whom they had met at a “pool parlour” at South Extension, the police said.

“They also had immediate plans to rob a jewellery shop in South Extension, a diamond trader and two banks,” said HGS Dhaliwal, DCP (south).

Kuldeep Singh alias Sonu, who was critically injured in Monday’s encounter, had allegedly run into debt of lakhs of rupees.

Sharafat Sheikh, who is booked under MCOCA and is in Tihar Jail, was said to be controlling these gangsters. Satte, who is wanted in over 40 cases, got in touch with Sheikh through Dabbu, also in Tihar.

Dabbu’s brother Bittu had recently formed an alliance with Satte. Kuldeep Singh and Sheikh knew each other from five years.

The police also recovered medical documents that Satte was preparing to help release Sheikh from jail on “medical grounds”. The entire gang has 20 people.

They knew the ‘law’

One of the accused Harpal alias Honey, a resident of Lajpat Nagar, is pursuing a degree in law. The police said the gangsters wore gloves during robberies and did not leave behind any evidence. The police also recovered helmets, Italy-made pistols and 10 phones from them. Two other gang members who were with Satte on Monday were Pappan and Sonu Chikna. Both are absconding.
