Delhiites can now experience the pain and trauma of those displaced by Partition through the sketches of sculptor and painter SL Parasher (1904-1991) in the basement-turned art gallery of the artist’s home.

A painting exhibition, on the theme of Partition, is on at Parasher art gallery in South Extension’s A block, showcasing Parasher’s works during the period immediately after Partition.
The event led to the artist being uprooted from Lahore to the Baldev Nagar refugee camp near Ambala.
The artist’s work includes sketches and sculptures, including one made from soil from the refugee camp. His works depict the sufferings, trauma and despair of the men and women caught in the vortex of history.
“The sketches are his expression of what he saw around himself and which he painted to keep his sanity,” said Raju Parasher, the artist’s son.
The exhibition was inaugurated by External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid.
