The building department of south zone took action against 10 properties in south Delhi. Areas such as Vasant Kunj, Sainik Farm, Vasant Enclave, Chattarpur, Khirki Village, Yusuf Sarai, Munirka were targeted by the civic agency.

“Many people had carried out construction in their houses illegally, taking advantage of the MCD elections. Our staff too was busy with preparations for the MCD elections so couldn’t demolish them. The demolition drive will continue throughout the week,” said a senior MCD official.

To ensure that illegally constructed floors cannot be used again by owners, the civic agency has left the properties in an uninhabitable condition.

In Vasant Kunj, all illegal constructions were demolished, in Chattarpur, two illegally constructed floors were demolished, in Sainik Farm, an entire building was razed. In Vasant Enclave too, a building that had been constructed without the sanction of a building plan from the MCD was demolished.
