Admission process picks up speed

The second cut-off list did not leave many options for those looking for a third list. On day one of admissions under the second cut-off, many colleges saw a great response.

"The response was fairly positive in B.Sc. (physical sciences) course. So far, we have admitted 907 students, with Hindi (honours) and philosophy (honours) admitting 32 and 23 students, respectively. Moreover, we received several requests from students to admit them in B.Com (honours), which is already full," said Anju Srivastava, media coordinator, Hindu College.

In Miranda House, where admissions to the popular commerce and humanities courses have been closed, there was a significant rise in the number of applicants in language and science courses.

The response to B.Com. (honours) in Hansraj, however, was slow as the college had not brought down cut-offs even in the second list.

"The response in B.Com. (honours) has not been very strong because of

the prevailing cut-offs. But we are expecting things to get better. However, the response in other science courses has been very good, with physics, chemistry, botany and zoology admitting close to 30 students today," said VK Kawatra, principal, Hansraj College.

Lady Shri Ram College (LSR) will not come out with a third list in most courses. "The response has been very good today. In most courses, the sanctioned seats are almost full. More students will come tomorrow as withdrawing certificates takes time," said Ujjaini Ray, media coordinator, LSR.

The only course for which the college is expected to come out with a second list is Mathematics. In Psychology only two seats are left.

In Kamla Nehru College (KNC) as well, courses like sociology, geography, psychology, Hindi, B.Com. and economics are already full. Subjects like philosophy and sanskrit have also picked up.

"A lot of courses are nearing the intake capacity. A lot of students have made it through because of the marginal dip. Even if we come out with a third list in some courses, we will be very cautious and the dip will be minimal," said Geetesh Nirban, media coordinator, KNC.

Admissions under the second list will go on till Saturday.
