Until now, his property had not been registered and despite being the owner of the house, he could not enjoy the privileges that came with it.

From getting an electricity connection to a bank loan, every task was daunting. “I could not ask for a loan or sell my property. My status was like that of an encroacher despite the fact that I purchased the plot with my hard-earned money. These past years have been very difficult,” said Singh, who runs an internet cafeteria.

Talking about his future, Singh says he can now plan to sell his property. “I have not decided what to do yet but I will make some plans for my house. I may sell off a portion,” he says. His sons and wife live with him in the house.
