The police on Friday arrested a man duping people of more than Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of getting them jobs at prestigious medical institutes.
An aspiring doctor, Rakesh Singh from Azamgarh in UP, failed thrice in realising his professional ambition.
“He had appeared for the PMT examination thrice from Allahabad, but could not succeed. So, he came to Delhi, and after misrepresenting himself as a doctor employed at a prestigious hospital, started taking money from job seekers and relatives of needy patients,” said Chhaya Sharma, DCP (south).
According to the police, Singh was arrested from his residence in South Extension Part I following investigations into a complaint filed by one Amit Kumar at the Hauz Khas police station. Police said Singh hatched the plan after he came to Delhi, where he resided as a tenant in Gautam Nagar. Living in an area inhabited by doctors, Singh decided to make money by pretending to be one employed at a big hospital.
“Besides cheating several of his friends back home, he had even told his wife that he was a doctor at a hospital,” Sharma said.

{{/usCountry}}The police also recovered several certificates of academic qualifications and treatment cards of a prestigious hospital’s OPD with his name forged on them. Further investigations are also underway.
