Police said 33-year-old Gurjeet, the accused, was taking the girl to an isolated place to assault her but was arrested before he could carry out his intentions. Gurpreet, an electrician, had reportedly been imprisoned earlier for seven years for raping a woman.
The girl was playing outside her home in Sarai Rohilla Thursday night when Gurjeet, who lives nearby, kidnapped her, the police said. “The girl’s parents couldn’t find her for some time and searched in the surrounding areas. They then informed the police,” said an officer.
A few neighbours told police that girl was last seen with Gurjeet, following which a massive search was launched. “We finally saw him running towards the railway station. The girl started crying on seeing her parents and the neighbours beat up Gurjeet,” said an officer.
