The civic agency on Wednesday said all key projects related to the Games would be completed before August.

“The Shivaji Stadium will only be needed from September but work is on at full swing and it will be completed by May,” said Parimal Rai, chairman, NDMC, while unveiling Rs 1931.14 crore budget for 2010-11.

The Talkatora Indoor stadium will host boxing competitions during the Games.

“The Games has given us an opportunity to upgrade the city’s infrastructure and we will ensure that all projects are completed well in time,” added Rai.

Among other thrust areas were horticulture improvement, education, health and e-governance solutions.

The NDMC is working to set up a GIS-based platform for all services. It will also start a web-based building plan approval system during the financial year.

Residents will be able to submit their building plans online and will also be able to check the status of their applications online.

The upgrading of municipal markets and improvement of facades of commercial complexes like Yashwant Place, Palika Bhawan and Mohan Singh Place is also in progress.

With eight Navyug schools of NDMC been given accreditation by the National Accreditation Board for Education and Training (NABET), the NDMC will open more such schools.

“We are also planning to introduce the ‘Lakshya’ scheme, envisaging coaching centres for class XI and XII students, in order to help them prepare for entrance exams like IIT,” added Rai.

Cautioning residents who have not yet paid their outstanding water and electricity dues (which amount to Rs. 80 crore), the civic agency says it has set a deadline of March 31 for payment of dues, failing which, their electricity connection of defaulters will

be disconnected.
