The World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA) and veterinary hospital and shelter Jeevashram conducted a fire safety drill with a difference on Tuesday.
It was animal lives they were simulating to save, perhaps giving the message that all forms of life are precious.
The drill was conducted at the pet-shelter at the Delhi-Gurgaon border just off the Gurgaon Expressway on Tuesday. More than 20 pet shelters participated in the first-of-its-kind programme held in Northern India.
Pet shelter owners who gained tips on pet rescue techniques will be holding similar drills in their community areas and impart training to amateur pet owners and lovers, said Ian Dacre, Asia Director (Disaster Management) WSPA.
The animals 'rescued' included dogs, rabbits, cats, peacocks, mules, donkeys and horses.
