Vijay Nahar, who was a notorious snatcher-cum-robber involved in some of the most sensational armed robbery bids that south Delhi witnessed between 2002 and 2005 before turning police informer, has been arrested from Palwal, Haryana. The police have also arrested Pawan and Ranjit — relatives of the accused and recovered R25 lakh.

“Nahar has been nabbed and we are currently in the process of recovering his share of the robbed amount. Further information about his arrest can be shared only after some crucial facts have been verified,” said an officer.

Sources also said they were in ‘hot pursuit’ of two other men, identified as Ranjit Rumal and Yogesh Kumar — both of whom are small-time criminals turned police informers just like Nahar, involved in the Rs. 5.25 crore heist perpetrated at Defence Colony’s D block on the afternoon of last Friday.

Ironically, what is helping the police track these absconders from one location to another, according to a senior investigating officer, is their attempt at ensuring that none of their family members snitch on them.

“The other two men currently absconding in the case, just like Nahar, are on the run with their entire immediate family — whom they understandably want to safeguard. However, evading several police teams which are in the process of hunting them down with their wives and children for company is not only difficult but also a giveaway of sorts,” the officer said.

Confident of wrapping-up the case by the middle of the coming week, police said they were hoping to recover somewhere around Rone crore from Nahar’s possession.

“Each penny will be accounted for. Rumal and Kumar’s arrests are likely to yield between R1-R1.75 crore as and when they are arrested,” the officer added.
