Arrest rapist forthwith, orders SC

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the "forthwith arrest" of an Udaipur hotel owner who had been let off on bail within three months of being convicted of raping a British tourist.

The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the "forthwith arrest" of an Udaipur hotel owner who had been let off on bail within three months of being convicted of raping a British tourist.

Parbat Singh, the hotel owner in Rajasthan's tourist town Udaipur, had been convicted of the rape that had been committed in December 2007. But he was released on bail once he appealed his conviction.

A bench of Supreme Court judges Markandey Katju and VS Sirpurkar on Friday cancelled the bail on a petition by the rape victim, who travelled to India to plead her case.
