With the campus coming alive finally on Thursday after a lull of more than a month, cars, bikes and rickshaws made it impossible to get to one college from another smoothly.

This situation, however, is nothing new. Every year, the first day of admissions sees traffic snarls. Despite this trend, not a single traffic police official was seen at any of the intersections.

“It took me nearly 30 minutes to get to Kamla Nagar Market from the Metro station, a distance I usually cover in five minutes,” said Sanjeev Dahiya, a resident of Bungalow Road. “This happens every year but the traffic police do nothing about it,” he added.

Some students also suffered because of the snarls as they could not get to the colleges on time. “I will have to come back again tomorrow as I was not able to reach Miranda House on time,” said Sania Khanna, an aspirant.

Traffic police officials also acknowledged the lack of adequate arrangement. “The traffic arrangements will be reorganised tomorrow. Traffic policemen will be deployed in that area,” said Satyendra Garg, Joint Commissioner of Police (traffic).

The presence of police personnel on the campus, however, was adequate, with students and parents appreciating their efforts. “The police officials are a real help. They are guiding us and also making sure that everything is normal,” said Neelam Makhija, the mother of a SRCC aspirant.
