The police said that the accident was caused as the autorickshaw driver was on the wrong side of the road.

According to police, the incident happened in Chirag Delhi around 2:45 am. The police said that the sisters Meera Arora (47) and Vimla Arora (50) were on their way home from a religious function in Greater Kailash-II.

Both the driver of the car Apurva (27) who only goes by his first name and Kishore Kumar (32) the auto driver were arrested and later released on bail.

Police said that medical examination revealed that none of the accused was driving under the influence of alcohol.

“The autorickshaw driver who was on his way to Trinagar was driving on the wrong side of the road. Apurva was going back home from a friend's place in Vasant Vihar. Near the Savitri Nagar flyover the autorickshaw collided with the Audi which was at high speed,” said a senior police officer on the condition of anonymity, as he is not authorized to speak to the media.

Police said that the women in their statement also ascertained that the driver of the autorickshaw was at fault.

“We were going back home to Trinagar from GK-II after attending a satsang (a religious gathering). We had hired the autorickshaw from Trinagar and asked him to wait till the satsang ended,” said Meera.

Police added that Apurva has done his engineering and MBA and is presently working with a private firm. He is a resident of Sukhdev Vihar and son of a CPWD contractor.

According to police, Apurva was at spot after the incident. A bystander made a PCR call to the police.

The police have registered a case of negligence and hurt against both the drivers.
