B.Com tops the charts

A detailed analysis of the common p-admission forms has clearly tagged B.Com programme as the most sought after course among candidates. And Ramjas College seems to be the hot favourite for students applying for the same. This revelation came on Friday after the Dean of Students’ Welfare office handed over CDs containing detailed data on the OMR forms to all the colleges.

Out of the 93,368 applications received this year, a whopping 28,339 have sought admission in the B.Com programme course offered by Ramjas College. This figure is the highest in comparison to the applications received for other courses.

However, there is a shift in preference when it comes to B.Com (Honours). Hindu College has received the maximum number of applications for this course and the total figure stands at 23,850. The competition in category, in all probability, is tough. Close to 2,500 applicants to this college have scored above 90 per cent. Hindu has only 47 seats for B.Com (Honours). It is followed closely by Ramjas with 23,670 applications.

In fact, according to deputy dean students’ welfare, getting admission in any of the top colleges affiliated to DU for the B.Com (H) course will be tough. “There is no dearth of candidates scoring 90 per cent and above. Among students applying for B.Com (Honours) and B.A. (Honours) courses, a total of 4,185 applicants have scored above 90 per cent. North Campus colleges will be able to easily fill their seats with the first cut-off list,” he said.
