Delhi's longest elevated road — the four-kilometre long Barapullah road that connects Ring Road near Sarai Kale Khan in east with Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium — is all set for an expansion.

The Cabinet approved the 2.5 kilometre extension of the road up to INA Market from Jawahar Lal Nehru Stadium. Senior PWD engineers said DUAC, UTTIPEC and ASI have already approved the proposal. The extension will cost Rs 530 crore.
The road was initially constructed to provide easy access to more than 7,000 athletes and officials living in the CWG Village in east Delhi to the JLN Stadium during the Commonwealth Games. The road is now widely used by people to move between east and central and south Delhi.
Apart from the extension of the road, PWD minister Rajkumar Chauhan said the department has also planned additional slip roads to make this road more usable. "We have planned a loop at Sarai Kale Khan, Bhisham Pitamah Marg and Aurobindo Marg," he said.
In phase 3, the PWD will extend this road up to Mayur Vihar in east Delhi, Chauhan said.
