Politician Amar Singh has alleged that lawyer Prashant Bhushan had issued him a "sophisticated ultimatum" in his efforts to expose the misdeeds of the civil rights activists.

At a press conference on Thursday, Singh quoted Bhushan as telling him over the telephone: "Why are you playing the Congress game? The Congress will give you nothing but pain. But if you support the campaign of the civil society, you will gain".

"I got three missed calls from Bhushan on my mobile and I subsequently spoke to him when he called this afternoon on my secretary Tarun Goel's mobile number", Singh said.

Singh plans to lodge a police complaint in this matter; submitting evidence of the telephonic conversation with Bhushan.

Contacted for his response, Bhushan denied having spoken to Singh. "Let Singh say what he likes. I do not respond to people like that", he told HT.

Singh charged Bhushan with indulging in a great deal of name-dropping, while hinting that the governmental investigating agencies could launch investigations on the basis of unsigned complaints filed on behalf of forums/organizations that he is associated with.

"Bhushan hinted that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) Additional Director Rajeshwar Singh was in league with him (Bhushan) in the 2G case investigations," Singh said.

The expelled the Samajwadi Party leader said he planned to meet finance minister Pranab Mukherjee to inquire whether the Central Vigilance Commission guidelines about anonymous complaints not being entertained could be flouted.
