Singled out as Enemy Number 1 by the Samajwadi Party to justify its new-found friendship with the Congress, the BJP is bracing for the return of the political rhetoric of the 1990s.

Jaswant Singh, who made a last-minute bid to stop the SP from supporting the nuclear deal, along with LK Advani are to address a press conference on Saturday. They will outline the BJP’s stand on issues including the current political stalemate and the Amarnath controversy, particularly the UPA’s “anti-Hindu” bias. Both are expected to clarify that the BJP believes all Muslims are not against facilities for Hindu pilgrims.
The party on Friday hit out at the SP, the Left and the Congress, saying it will not be deterred by the revival of the anti-BJP plank in the next Lok Sabha polls.
“The BJP is deeply concerned over the political theatre of the absurd being played to save the tottering UPA government wherein governance has become a serious casualty,” BJP spokesperson Ravi Shankar Prasad said. Inflation has risen today to 11.63 per cent and instead of taking effective steps to contain the price rise, we are finding the worst kind of opportunistic politics being played, he said.
