They gave a memorandum demanding immediate compliance on the recommendation of the Lokayukta for the removal of the minister.

The BJP leaders, led by Vijay Kumar Malhotra, complained that “a brazen case of impropriety has been indicated by the Lokayukta involving a sitting minister of the Delhi government that has the potential of tarnishing time-honoured and constitutionally mandated code of conduct for public servants”.

“The President of India has assured the delegation that she will take appropriate legal action after going thorough our representation,” Malhotra said.

In the memorandum, the BJP leaders emphasised that the case deserves exemplary importance in view of the raging national debate on probity in the shadow of a spate of ugly financial scams that have repeatedly exhibited the unholy nexus between politicians and private individuals and corporations with vested interests.

‘Indiscipline to be dealt with strictly’

The budget session will start with L-G Tejendra Khanna’s address on Tuesday. CM Sheila Dikshit, who also holds the finance portfolio, will present the budget on March 22.

During the 13 sittings, the government will table Delhi Value Added Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2011, while the Oppo-sition would raise issues on deteriorating law and order, rising crime against women and the likes.
