Party spokesperson Prakash Javedkar said the protest by the younger lot is a "wake-up" call and a "warning" to the UPA Government which has "failed miserably" in protecting women.

"We demand a special session of Parliament for discussing the whole gamut of issues concerning law and order," he said as he condemned the police action against the "peaceful protest".

Alleging that "absence of government" in ensuring security is the "hallmark" of the UPA regime, he said people want a functional government which the present regime has failed to provide.

BJP leader Sushma Swaraj had yesterday urged Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to convene a special session of Parliament for amending the existing law to provide death sentence for heinous crimes against women.
