‘BJP win due to subverted vote’

The party is yet to accept the defeat and is waiting for the Karnataka High Court verdict on Monday on a plea by the disqualified 11 BJP and five independent legislators who have sought quashing of Speaker K.G. Bopaiah’s orders on the grounds that these were in “clear violation of statutory rules”.

“Whatever the result, it is subject to the final decision of the high court,” party spokesman Manish Tewari said. He said Leader of Opposition Siddaramaiah had requested the Speaker to wait for the court decision seeking the trust vote but it was rejected.

“However, the intent of BJP from day one was to convert a minority government into a majority government and by using money and muscle power, BJP has been able to prove its majority in this vitiated vote of confidence,” he said.

Law Minister M. Veerappa Moily said the BJP’s win was “only transitory” and no party can run a government with this kind of a majority.

He said the October 11 trust vote was a fraud and the latest vote of confidence is only an improvement on that. Moily said the Opposition was not in a position to gather support to give a stable government but pointed out that much will depend on Monday’s court ruling.
