Jaitpur residents say 18-year-old killed by practitioners of dark arts, but police rubbish theory.

A youth was found hacked to death near a drain in south Delhi’s Jaitpur on Monday, police said.

The body of the 18-year-old was discovered by people on a morning walk and was reported to the police control room around 9am.

The youth, Pankaj Kumar, was a cable mechanic in the area. He lived with his parents and three siblings in Jaitpur’s Gali No. 6.

A police control room vehicle, soon after being informed of the murder, went to the site of the incident to see a youth lying in a pool of blood.

“The throat of the victim had been slit. The body was taken to the AIIMS mortuary where a post-mortem was conducted,” said a senior officer.

The police later learnt that Kumar had left his home around 9.30pm on Sunday after telling his parents that he was going to meet his friends and that he would return in an hour.

“The family became worried and began a search when Kumar did not return till late in the night. The police were subsequently informed,” the officer added.

The Jaitpur police, however, dismissed such suspicion as rumours and denied the involvement of tantriks.

The investigators, instead, claimed that Kumar was murdered over personal issues and they had evidence to prove it. They were, however, probing if there was any other reason for the murder.

Five persons have reportedly been detained for questioning in connection with Kumar’s murder.
