The incident that took place close to Sangam cinema theatre in south Delhi's RK Puram area sparked violence as people in the neighbourhood attacked the bus plying on Route 621.

As the guilty bus driver fled, furious young men used sticks and stones to shatter the windowpanes and windows of the killer bus and several other buses passing by.

The three men who were seriously injured were rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared one man dead. The other two, they said, had sustained critical injuries on their waist and legs.

Police said as the violence spread, the otherwise busy road where the accident occurred was blocked for traffic for about two hours.

A large number of policemen were moved to the area to bring the situation under control.
