Senior transport department officials said they had finalised a policy to rehabilitate operators, drivers and other people who earned their livlihood by running blueline buses in Delhi.

Officials said blueline operators will be given one permit each to run mini-buses on the outskirts of Delhi.

Though there are about 1,300 blueline operators who ran close to 2,800 buses in the Capital till these were phased out in batches, the transport department will only give out 1,000 permits to run mini-buses.

"It is difficult to run low-floor buses in rural areas and old DTC buses are also needed to be phased out. Mini-buses will fill the vacuum perfectly," a senior transport department official said.

The transport department considered various options before finalising plan to give blueline operators permits to run mini-buses.
