Senior advocates RK Anand and IU Khan, convicted for contempt of court for trying to influence a key witness in the BMW hit-and-run case, on Monday failed to get any relief from the Supreme Court which rejected their plea to stay the Delhi High Court verdict.

A Bench headed by Justice BN Agrawal said interim stay of the judgement barring the two advocates from practising in the High Court and subordinate courts cannot be granted and added that, perhaps, the matter was dealt in a "lenient" and "liberal" manner by the High Court.
However, it agreed to give them an expeditious hearing on their appeals by admitting the petitions in this regard and called for the case records from the High Court and posted its hearing before an appropriate Bench of October 14.
Senior advocates Rajeev Dhavan and PP Rao, appearing for Anand and Khan assailed the judgement saying that the High Court did not consider their applications and delivered the final judgement.
"The High Court has dealt with the matter quite leniently", the Bench, also comprising, Justice GS Singhvi observed during the hearing when Dhavan said that the High Court had exceeded its jurisdiction and did not follow the due process of law by holding summary proceeding in the matter.
However, the Bench said "had it been a case of an ordinary person there would be a different yardstick but here it was a case of a member of the Bar".
