Book Bazaar, a readers’ delight

At the Delhi Weekend Book Bazaar organised by National Book Trust, fiction was the most popular segment among the students. Many publishers gave discounts on classics by James Joyce, Ernest Hemingway, Thomas Hardy and Charles Dickens.

“The best part about such book fairs is that one gets classics at a very reasonable price. I bought three books by Charlotte Bronte for just Rs200,” said Yamini De, a third year student of History at Lady Shri Ram College.

Stalls selling text books and model test papers were also very popular among students. Couches, hammocks and recliner chairs were also set up on the Faculty of Arts grounds where students gathered in large numbers.

“Putting up chairs and couches is a very good idea. One gets to sit and relax along with buying books. These should be permanent fixtures here,” said Rohan Maheshwari, a student at Ramjas College.

Specialised book stalls selling spiritual literature, children’s literature, Leftist literature and religious literature were also put up but failed to attract many on the first day of the fest. The fest will go on till Sunday.
