Booze, potholed road turn deadly

A cocktail of high speed, bad roads and poor lighting resulted in the death of a man as a car overturned after hitting a pothole in south city II of Gurgaon on Thursday.

Five occupants, including three children, were injured and a five-year-old is critical.

According to the police, the car, which was speeding, ran over a pothole and hit a divider. The impact made it turn turtle thrice.

"The driver lost balance as the car was in high speed," said Daya Ram, investigating officer of the case.

"A PCR call was made and the victims were rushed to a nearby hospital."

A family from South city had hired the car and were travelling from Lado Sarai to Delhi. Sources said there were six persons in the car including the driver.

The driver, Ram Prasad, a native of Nepal succumbed to injuries while four others were referred to Safdarjung hospital. The stretch on the Gurgaon- Sohna road, where the accident occurred, is badly lit due to which the driver could not see the potholes and rammed a divider.

A case causing death due to rash and negligence driving regarding this has been registered at Sadar police station and further investigations are on.

"We have asked the civic bodies to fill the potholes but they are going to do it after the rainy season. We can only issue general instruction to drive safely on sector roads," said a senior police officer.

The injured have been identified as Seeta Devi, Rishi and their children as Shashi, Guddi and Rubi.
