"Aaj ke baad meri wajah se koi pareshaan nahi hoga…(Nobody will have a problem because of me any longer)," is what Chandrakant Singh, the 19-year ITI student who committed suicide after being arrested for harassing two girls in a moving DTC bus, wrote in his suicide note.

Singh was found hanging from the ceiling fan at his New Manglapuri residence in Fatehpur Beri on December 25, a day after he and two of his friends were booked by the police for harassing two girls. They were arrested following a complaint lodged by one of the girls. Singh's friend Sonu Vaidya, who was also arrested along with their friend Mohit, for the same crime attempted suicide by allegedly consuming poison a day after Singh's death.
Singh's family blamed a police officer from the Mehrauli police station for his death, alleging that the former had threatened and humiliated Singh to such an extent that he "went into depression" and took the extreme step.
"Soon after arresting my son on a false complaint filed by the girl on December 24, the police started threatening him that they will book him under harsher sections and that he will be sent to jail for at least seven years. Even after releasing him on bail, the cops took him to ITI, Nizamuddin, and humiliated him in front of other students,” said Navrang Singh, the deceased's father.
