The process of fixing power tariff by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission (DERC) will be delayed as the BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) has sent a revised petition to the power regulator.
BRPL, which supplies power to south and west Delhi, had sent the new and 'revised petition' to DERC, seeking a fixed increase of 6.5 per cent from the 1.6 per cent it had submitted in December last year.
Commission officials said that they would have to bring out a new public notice inviting suggestions and objections on this new revised petition of BRPL, which will delay the process. According to sources, the new power tariff would have been announced by May but now no time limit has been set.
The regulator had already completed the process of getting objections and suggestions and had received 400 responses, which were being evaluated by the DERC members. However, with BRPL seeking an amendment the entire process will start again and be time consuming.
"We will issue a public notice inviting suggestions and objections again to get the responses of the public as tariff can't be fixed without the due process. Once we receive the responses, we will hold public hearings where people will be allowed to discuss the issue at length. We were earlier hoping to start public hearing process now but it will be delayed by at least a month," said a senior DERC official. The three power distribution companieshad submitted their petitions last year.
