The Delhi Traffic Police on Saturday dubbed the capital's first bus rapid transit corridor as "flawed" and said the department had complained to the Sheila Dikshit government about its "poor planning".
"Delhi Traffic Police is against this step. We have been receiving increasing complaints of traffic snarls along this corridor. We are finding it difficult to handle the traffic. Having 14 more such corridors, as announced by the government recently, is unthinkable," said Prem Nath, DCP Traffic (Southern Range).
He made these remarks in the presence of Delhi Police Commissioner B K Gupta at an interaction organised by FICCI.
Nath said the traffic police had lodged a complaint with the Delhi government to take steps to improve the public transport infrastructure before opening new corridors.
"We have lodged a protest with the Delhi government about the poor planning that has gone into this project. Unless Delhi develops a proper public transport system with adequate infrastructure this system has too many loopholes," he said.
To a question on what the traffic police intended to do to ease traffic along the corridor, Nath said, "We have lodged our complaint, we are awaiting the Delhi government's response."
