BSF increases vigil along Jammu, Punjab border

The BSF on Thursday said it has stepped up its presence along the Indo-Pak border in Jammu and Punjab regions as the frontiers are very sensitive in terms of infiltration attempts at "this point of time" with the routes in Kashmir receiving heavy snowfall.

"Incidents (infiltration attempts) have been taking place on the Line of Control and international border also. We have alerted all our formations, we have maximised and optimised the deployments, we have brought in reinforcements, we have increased our presence on the borders, we have increased round-the-clock vigil also," BSF chief Raman Srivastava told reporters on the sidelines of a function in Delhi.

"The Punjab and Jammu borders are very sensitive at this particular point of time. It is difficult to enter Kashmir now as the area is receiving snowfall...Hence the option (for militants) that remains is south Jammu and Punjab. Attempts in recent times have gone up," he said.

"Appropriate protest have been lodged with the Government of Pakistan...It is certainly a matter of concern..," he said.

There are "enough" militants waiting to infiltrate across the border, he said without giving an estimate about their numbers.
