Bus rams into another, 17 injured
Seventeen passengers suffered minor injuries after the standard-sized DTC bus they were travelling in rammed into a low floor air-conditioned DTC bus from behind in west Delhi’s Raja Garden area on Saturday morning.

According to the police, the incident took place around 10am near a gurdwara on the Outer Ring Road between Mayapuri and Raja Garden flyovers. Due to the accident, traffic in the area was affected for about an hour. Both the buses had to be removed from the spot through a crane. The police have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the errant driver of the standard-sized bus, identified as Jagmendra.
He was arrested and later released on bail. The police said that Jagmendra, a native of Rohtak, Haryana, was recruited last year during the Commonwealth Games. In his statement to the police, Jagmendra claimed he had lost control over the vehicle when a speeding car suddenly stopped ahead of him. In order to avoid a collision with the car, he made a sudden right turn and rammed into the AC bus.
The driver of the old DTC bus on route number 568 (plying between Sarojini Nagar and Mangolpuri) was driving dangerously and was trying to overtake the low floor AC bus on route number 442 (plying between Azadpur and Nehru Vihar), the police said.
“The injured passengers told us that the driver was overtaking several vehicles dangerously. He also tried to overtake the low floor bus but in the process, lost control and rammed into it with a loud bang. Due to the sudden jolt, seventeen passengers sustained injuries either by falling at each other on the floor of the bus or smashing their heads or faces into the iron rods of the seats. They were rushed to Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital. All the injured were later discharged after treatment,” said a senior police officer.
