Activists of Save Yamuna campaign organised a protest on Sunday against the Delhi Metro’s alleged encroachment of the Yamuna riverbed.

The protest was held at the entrance of the newly opened Yamuna Bank station.
The activists accused the DMRC of “killing the Yamuna and comprising on water security”. Rubbishing the claims of environmentalists, DMRC Managing Director E.Sreedharan said he “doesn't understand how the ecology has been shattered” with the construction of the complex.
“The DMRC has taken all steps to protect the river and the water bearing body.” “We have taken into account all environmental concern while carrying out the construction in the Yamuna riverbed area. We have taken all the necessary steps. We will make sure that the polluted water does not get into the river,” he said.
Sreedharan said the opening of the station will provide “tremendous convenience" to the people of East Delhi and there was no “degradation at of environment”.
