After a meeting of the high profile Congress Core Group, which includes Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Congress president Sonia Gandhi, government sources said that the matter will be taken up next week.

While Prime Minister had assured Parliament earlier this month that the Cabinet would shortly decide on the matter, Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee had categorically stated that caste would be included in the current census.

There was no word on it, but the meeting reportedly also discussed the UPA’s forthcoming first anniversary celebration on May 22 and the government’s report card on its performance.
