CBI arrests Pappu Yadav in Gurgaon

Former Rashtriya Janata Dal MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav was arrested on Sunday, ten days after he went missing following the Supreme Court's confirmation of its order cancelling his bail in a 12-year-old murder case. Abhishek Sharan reports.

The CBI and Gurgaon police nabbed him from a private hospital in a joint operation.

According to a CBI investigator, Yadav had admitted himself at Gurgaon's Artemis hospital to get treatment for his alleged ailments 24 hours before his eventual arrest.

"He got himself admitted at the hospital on Saturday night after arriving there with three friends… he occupied a single room meant for admitted patients later," said the officer.

Hospital spokesperson S R Praveen said: "At the time Mr Ranjan got himself admitted here, he had complained of a few ailments… He is obese and had problems related to breathing."

Yadav was produced in a Gurgaon court on Monday that granted transit remand for producing him before the CBI court in Patna.
