CBI books ACP for amassing illegal assets

Assets include properties in central and south Delhi, including one in GK.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has lodged a case against an official of the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) in Delhi Police for allegedly amassing assets worth several crore that were disproportionate to his known source of income.

The accused, ACP Mahipal Yadav, is currently posted with the fourth battalion, Delhi Armed Police, Wazirabad. Inducted as a sub-inspector in Delhi Police in 1977, Yadav has held several important assignments in the past.

The agency filed a cased against Yadav under Section 13(1)(e) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, for owning disproportionate assets including six prime assets in central and south Delhi, one of which is located in the posh Greater Kailash. The CBI has accused Yadav of owning five floors, worth several crore, in Tughlaqabad and Green Park.

“Documents also indicate that he held a flat in Faridabad, Haryana and a lucrative commercial property in Greater Kailash,” said a CBI source. The assets were allegedly held by him or in the name of a relative and by others on his behalf, according to a CBI source.

“We are examining the contents of bank accounts held by the accused and of his lockers if any,” said the source.
