CBI files closure report in mysterious death of undertrial

The CBI on Wednesday sought to close a five-year-old case relating to mysterious death of an undertrial in Tihar jail in New Delhi claiming investigations did not corroborate the allegation that it was a murder.

"There is no direct or circumstantial evidence to suggest murder. Most of the witnesses rebut the opinion of death caused due to electrocution in jail barrack," the CBI claimed in its report filed in the court of Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja.

The probe agency had registered a regular case on August 27, 2007, after a direction by the Delhi High Court on a petition of Bilkis Begum, alleging Mobin alias Momin (35), her husband, who was an undertrial prisoner in a murder case, was killed inside Tihar jail here on August 13, 2004.

Bilkis had alleged her husband was murdered following a conspiracy hatched amongst Noora, Hakimuddin and one Khalil, who were jail inmates, in connivance with the prison staff.

The Board of doctors, which had conducted the post-mortem on the body of Mobin, had opined that his death was caused due to "combined result of shock and blunt force impact to head and genital organs."
